More Morels, Turkey Opener, Chores

Spring is progressing nicely - I was somewhat surprised to see that there were still blooms.

The redbuds are past peak but still glorious,

It's hard to get a good dogwood shot - they are dispersed under the tree canopy.

We got to the farm ahead of the rain on Saturday.
It had snowed earlier in the week - I wasn't sure if that would have stopped everything.  These are flowering crabapples at home this week.
And the trailcams showed some snow at the farm too.

So I wasn't sure what to expect on the morel front.
I found some blacks that seemed past peak but I stumbled on some fresh grays.
Under one big poplar I found a motherlode.

Mushroom pasta that Joan made with last week's haul.
I did get a few plots turned before the rain,
Checking out the new tiller.

And, I got the previously dug up cedars taken care of during the rain.
The rain stopped by Sunday morning and I headed out for my first turkey hunt of the season.
It was a little unclear how much I was hunting for turkeys and how much I was hunting for morels.
The woods are starting to green up.  I heard some gobbles but never called anyone in.
I walked in on this deer in the field.
And I took this shaky video of getting busted.  Busted
As I continued walking in on that field, a hen flushed and flew right in front of me.  I guess that they were both enjoying the clover.
Checking out the vernal ponds for frogs, newts and salamanders.
Light reflection made it hard but there's a lot going on in there.
This was in the main fish pond.  Video here Tadpoles.
Earlier in the week when we passed thru town.  Have you caught up to the news on the neighborhood murders?  Murder Confession
A short duration on the trailcams.

Trailcams As Promised

As mentioned previously, I had about 3 weeks on the cameras.  I've tried to select some of the more interesting ones.  In one series, I had a hundred or so of a single turkey courting sequence.

The three jakes.
