Fall Plantings Still Can Use Rain

Joan had 1 1/2 inches in her rain gauge in Mason.  There were storms off and on all week.

But they somehow missed the farm.  We only got 1/2" of rain out here.

 The main plot with turnips and oats is doing pretty well.

 My planting may have been a little patchy.  At least the oats are doing well in the areas that I missed with the turnips.

 The chicory and clover fields are barely up.

 This sunflower field is past peak but still pretty nice.

 This one is a mess.  Six foot tall seed heads on the pigweed plants.  I couldn't stand it.

 I mowed it down.

My nephew Dave and his family moved back to Ohio and we stopped by to see their new house.

They're only an hour's drive from the farm.

Here I am mowing last week with the protein block on the stump.

 It got pushed off the stump by a raccoon.

 I moved one camera from the mineral lick that wasn't getting any action.  I put it on this persimmon tree.  It's right on the edge of the clover field at the barn stand.

 The clover generally looks good.

 I left some old corn out last week and they didn't touch it.  This camera hasn't been happy with the SD card I was using so I didn't have any shots until I changed it.

 I went ahead and husked the corn for them.  Nothing is too good for my deer.

 This is the camera location that I'm giving up on.

 Not a lot of traffic on this camera either.

 Except for me.

 I forget what this bush is.  I identified it last year.

 Interesting looking caterpillars.  A little out of focus.

One of the pear trees is blushing red this year.

The grapes that seem to be attracting the turkeys.

 The other pear tree - green and hard as a rock.

 Pear tree trunk - woodpecker damage?

 Pumpkin patch.

 Some fungus/mold damage.

 Monster pumpkin variety has a slow start.

 Others doing fine.

 A few starting to turn orange already.

Gourds seem happy.

Might be a couple weeks till I post again.

Nothing too exciting this week.  I'll be in Chicago next weekend.  By the time that I next check the cameras, they may be out of velvet.

 The protein block got some attention - notice the rounded corners.

And then a raccoon faced off with the does over it.

 And it disappeared.  It was pushed off to the left.

 I think that the turkeys are attracted to the grape arbor.

 Visibility diminished on this camera.

I had to dig a big spider out of the lens.
