Tree Work and Other Chores

A couple of weeks ago, my Service Forester, Gavin, came out and marked up 3 acres of woods for timber stand improvement (TSI).  I have been traveling and just got a couple hours to work on it.

I used the electric chainsaw to girdle and the NDA mix of herbicide to spray the cuts.
In about three hours, I got about 1/2 acre done.  Lots more work to do.

I gave my two plots another turn.  I'm not planning to plant until June.
The old John Deere seems to be running pretty well again.
Last week, Van and Donnie were out to discuss a needed expansion for the elk room.  We think that we have a plan.
Joan and I did the camera tour.
The birds have been perching (and shitting) on my camera.
It was a pretty nice day after a rainy start.
The clover is in bloom.

I almost ran this little guy over.
Another mylar balloon - it's amazing how many I find.
This broken egg was in the prairie plot.  I think it is a turkey egg - it was pretty large.  I suspect somebody ate it - a little early for hatching.
We did the recommended method for disposing of a tattered flag.
I've been putting out minerals for fawning and antler growing season.
And it does seem to be popular.
Looking pretty big.
Some get possessive.
And some share.
The clover is also popular now.
With deer and turkeys.
I think this is a house finch.
Coyotes prowling for fawns and poults.

Fox also out scavenging.
The turkeys are still gobbling and strutting.

I haven't found time to hunt them this year.
Maybe next year. I did get another walk in with the backpack sprayer for control of invasives (multiflora rose, autumn olive, tree of heaven, etc).
