We were in Normandy. The farms in Normandy are impressive and productive. The pond in the one photo was at Claude Monet's gardens in Giverny (which we visited in a downpour). This photo is of the US Cemetery near Omaha Beach. Here's a link with info on this special place Normandy American Cemetery Over 9,000 buried here.
We visited the German bunkers on top of the cliffs.
They were substantial installations with line of fire covering all the beaches.
There was a very interesting museum explaining the temporary ports for the invasion. Here's a link about it Mulberry Harbor The logistics were formidable.
And we visited the actual Omaha Beach landing site now designated with this memorial sculpture. It is definitely sacred ground. Anyway, it is good to be home.
