So here's an interesting article reviewing the studies on the effectiveness of bear spray. After hunting in bear country last year, my interest in this topic peaked. The data seems to show that it works well as a hazing tool on curious (non-threatening) bears. Seems to indicate not so great effectiveness on mad charging bears. The author finds more comfort in a gun when being charged by an angry grizzly. Outside - Does Bear Spray Work?
Here's a book review from the NYT - not a ringing endorsement. But an interesting topic to me - invisible and unintended environmental impacts by humans. I may get around to reading it someday. NYT Review Inconspicuous Consumption by Schlossberg
A couple of short videos of interest that I stumbled across recently.
Here's a short Smithsonian video on how elk calves avoid the wolves in Yellowstone (mostly).
Here's a Nat Geo short on migrations around Yellowstone. Sort of like a mini Serengeti wildebeest migration.
