Gorgeous Labor Day Weekend

We had a great weekend and our goofball grandsons were in town to spice it up.

We did a little bit of pre-harvest in the pumpkin patch - it's looking like a bumper year.

Violet, our new puppy, was the center of attention.

Eric and I did a little warm-up shooting for our Wyoming trip.

It took a little while but we both got set up about 2" high at 100 yards.

So then we moved on to the 300 yard targets both prone and sitting.

There was enough time for a little bit of baseball and cornhole.

We might have had a little bbq followed by s'mores.

First farm visit for Violet - I think that she approves.

The boys had a nice nature walk - comfortable temperatures for walking in the woods.

It's been an amazing growing season this year - July was hot but August has been tolerable.

Eric checking out all of his gear for the hunt - pack, binos, rifle, bear pistol.

Elliott and I found this shed antler.  I wish we found it before the rodents.

But it's a pretty nice 5 point.

Major tick and chigger investigations after the walk.  Mom did an amazing job.

We had several fishing expeditions.

Mostly catching little bluegills - or feeding them our worms.

At one point, Tommy had 7 fish in a row.

Elliot and I launched the boat (he calls it the "rescue boat").

This was the biggest fish of the weekend - here I am trying to take credit for it.

But it was actually Tommy's.  It came in with a worm, a small bluegill and the bass all on the same line.

Eric made this recent addition to his fleet.  We are going to live in covid-safe luxury on the way to the Wyoming hunt.

Lots of Ranger rides.

I had help checking the cameras.  It's been two weeks but two of the cameras had problems and weren't working.

This is what it looks like on the way back to Chicago.  Grandma and Grandpa were like this too.

First buck that I've seen losing its velvet.

Not all that much activity for a couple of weeks.

Spider web on the lens.

Does with fawns.

We saw some turkeys on our travels this weekend.
