Amy, Lucy and Charlie are in town and we decided to spend the 4th at the farm.
We spent a couple days of mostly leisure.
Although the youngsters are pretty active all the time.
Lots of things to do at the farm.
Ranger rides are always high on the list.
Helping Grandpa with chores.
Heading down to the pond.
A little bit of fishing.
Occasional success. Charlie caught the first fish.
Lucy was a little frustrated.
But she eventually caught some too.
She wasn't too sure about it though once the fish was on the dock.
The pond is still having some issues - we're going to try a new style aerator.
Luckily the wind kept all that stuff on one end.
We discovered that somebody had been excavating under the kitchen window. We've had possums and black snakes take up residence here before. We filled in previous burrows with rocks but somebody dug them all back out.
What could possibly have done it?
Mystery solved - a groundhog. He has been named Chuck. I think that we will deal with him when the grandkids aren't in town...
On one tour we saw a pair of fawns out in the field. They just bedded right there and we drove almost right up to them before they ran away.
We also encountered a reasonable sized black snake.
And we had several encounters with a lizard in the barn.
It's the first time that I've seen one like this around - maybe it has something to do with the centipede invasion.
He does have a nice camo pattern.
Some of the wineberries were ripe.
I sprayed down with insect repellent, taped my clothes shut, put on the tick chaps, and waded in to harvest some.
And then enjoyed them with whipped cream.
Showing us how you finish the ice cream.
S'mores are always a hit at the farm.
Sticky stuff.
Mommy assist.
I got a little work done in the pumpkin patch.
The rows are highly variable - some didn't come in too well.
This is a zucchini row - leaves sort of yellow but the plants are flowering.
The rows need weeded but it just may never happen. No time.
A few of the vines are just starting to run.
Lots of Ranger rides.
Butterfly inspections.
I tried to upload a few "live photos"
I'm not sure what this one is.
Closer look.
The monarchs were around but didn't want to pose for photos.
One of the atv trails had a puddle full of these tiny frogs.
Touring.
Figured out the camera locations.
New hardware attempt for chain attachment. I have several other styles to try too.

I'll try to get the rest of the trailcams sorted for another post tomorrow.
Always a blast to have the grandkids to the farm.
