Great weekend and we spent it mostly on chores. Almost 2" of rain since my last visit but the ground was dry now.
The electronic devices seem to be working to keep mice out of the cabin but they have been going to town in the barn. I have this hard plastic bin for birdseed and they've almost nibbled the entire top lip off of it.So I reverted to traps and caught two overnight.
Joan did her mowing and I did some bush-hogging.
I did some weed control in the pumpkin patch.
The tape was down in the sunflower section of the patch and many of the sunflower plants had been decapitated. Not a good omen.
So far, I think there's still plenty to flower.
I could have done a lot more hoeing - I'm never going to win that battle.
Some weed-whacking - especially around the pond edge. I added some lime to the pond to try to get it to clear up a little.
This annual plot seems to be doing ok. There's weeds but I can see buckwheat, soybeans, milo and sunflower.
This plot is a mass of pigweed. I had planted some sunflowers and I'm not sure if they got eaten or outcompeted. I sprayed this field with roundup.
Haven't seen a lot of butterflies yet but we have lots of common milkweed and butterfly milkweed. Mostly just fritillary butterflies so far.
The wineberries still aren't ready. Another week or two.
As I was checking cameras, I turned my head and had this looking at me from 20 yards.
It's baby time on the trailcams.
And the hens are out with their poults.
A few jakes and Toms are about also,
Including at least one strutter.
The pileated wood pecker is still around.
I think that this blurry image is an owl. Seems to be hunting in the same spot on multiple nights.
Some other baby-eaters on the prowl. Bobcat.
Coyote
Fox
More coyotes.
Bobcat
And the bucks are coming along too.
