First Blood - Mr. Nubs

One of the bucks that we have been seeing routinely is this one with little nubs for G-4s.

I had also seen him in archery season but he never came closer than 120 yards.

On Thursday evening, he showed up at 35 yards and the 45-70 put him down right where he was standing.  DRT.  This happened about 30 minutes after Eric rolled into town and made his way to a stand.
He was severely quartering to me so the entry was almost on the neck but the shot went right thru the boiler room.  That 45-70 hit with such force that there was some splatter from the entry wound.
Anyway, dead is dead and I'm glad that it was quick.
Here's a view with the pond stand in the background and the spot that he dropped.
This was one of the easiest tracking and recovery jobs ever.  And it wasn't last day, last light.
We got him gutted at the barn.
Official vital statistics are 154 pounds (field dressed) and a 20" spread on the rack.  I'm calling him a 10 point but I'm not sure the nubs actually qualify.  One of them is chipped.
And a beer to aid in the cleanup work.
Eric has been in stand trying for his own buck.
So far he's seen a couple of non-shooters.
Maybe tonight will be his night.
