I've been gone for two weeks and Van has really made alot of progress on the addition. We're solving a problem with frozen pipes, adding a bigger dining area, and getting Joan some more pantry/closet space. It's basically just a "lean-to" outside the old dining area.
Van sunk the posts, poured the slab, framed the building, installed the windows, insulated and put the roofing and siding on. One of his friends tore out the old furnace and a/c and installed new units. All this in 2 weeks.
The window on this side is relocated from in front of the dining table.
The end of the building has a new 8' picture window.
The interior will have barn siding like the rest of the cabin. Joan selected a ceramic tile that Van will lay. This picture is taken from the old window location.
The opening from the cabin to the new room isn't finished yet. Van has demo'd the area from the old window but the final opening will be a foot wider. There will be pantry type closets on the end of the new room that we can see in this picture.
This is from inside the new room looking back at the laundry and pantry.
Van set the table in the new room so that Joan and I would have a place to eat this weekend. We ate by candle (and lantern) light since the wiring wasn't done yet.
This is a Glendale Buck practice target that I have. It's just outside the new addition. Dave tells me that I can't just leave it out or a real buck will attack it (it happened to him in Indiana).
Here's a bunch of turkeys wandering by the target. This was taken from the new picture window.
This is a sunrise on Sunday morning.
Sydney was helping me harvest the last of the pumpkins. Joan left to go shopping for a new dining table at the local Amish store. Sydney didn't really appreciate her leaving.
Joan found a festival in progress in addition to the furniture store. She purchased a couple of nice hand crafted wood framed items from Adams County and also these authentic local pork rinds. She didn't find the perfect dining table. She brought us home buffalo burgers for lunch.
Joan had a pork roast for dinner so she requested some apples for apple sauce. I was glad to assist.
The hunting stand that I cleared out two weeks ago already had new wasp nests. I took a quick look at the stand in the valley - there's a major commando action required to reclaim that stand from the wasps.
Some of the brassica/turnips are looking pretty respectable but some rain would sure help.
Joan and I took a Ranger tour this morning. The following shots are just random sights that we saw along the way. This is an ant hill - I'm not sure what the hairy border is around it.
Joan was interested in some textures for backgrounds in a new app that she's trying on her Ipad - so we took photos of all kinds of stuff as we were driving around.
There's a really nice acorn crop this year.
This old wood pile is ready for burning.
I think that this was a cedar tree.
There are so many apples on the ground - I can't believe that there isn't a parade of deer to the orchard.
These are some shots from up in the high-rise stand.
