This week, Van framed in the closets, did the wiring, drywalled the ceiling and the closets, and finished framing the opening from the old cabin into the new room. He also built the furnace room up in the attic.
On Friday, I stopped in while Van and Michael worked on the finish for the ceiling. Here is Michael rolling on the plaster mud.
Once the mud was on the drywall, Van went over it with a straight edge to make the finished texture.
Here's the finished product with the lights and vents installed.
Here's a night-time view from the old cabin looking into the new room. The ceiling lights are pretty bright but they're on a dimmer switch. Next week, Van plans to put up the wood siding and start on the ceramic tile.
I did conduct the comando raid on the wasps in the two remaining hunting stands. This is the stool from the ridge stand. Dave hunted in this stand recently and there were two wasp nests under the stool that he sat on. The stand in the valley had numerous wasp nests.
The hormones have started to rise in the bucks and they're marking their territory by rubbing the trees with their antlers.
This type of rubbing damage kills some trees every year.
This is the soybean plot at the driveway stand. We only had 0.1" of rain this week and the plots are really dry. It's been weeks since we had a good soaker. The deer have really enjoyed these soybean plots and have grazed them hard.
This is a close up of a sobean plant. The browsing has stripped most of the leaves. There are still beans on the plants and although the field looks picked over, the deer still work this field every night.
