I stopped in Peebles for gas on the way out to the farm and the customers are looking a little odd.
Last week, I planted two food plots based on rain being in the forecast. During the week, the weatherman kept reducing the forecast to the point that it was a 40% chance on 1/4" of rain. I was pleasantly surprised to arrive and find this in the gauge. We also got a 0.3" downpour on Sunday. We had a few issues this weekend. The A/C died, there is a dead mouse smell (that we can't find), and the internet was out. But the weather was glorious so we persevered. The pumpkins look good where you can find them between the weeds.
We took the two young dogs on a hike and they did great off-leash.
Hunting dogs oblivious to the turtle.
At one point they were running around chasing each other so wildly, we had to put them on a leash for a time out.
Charlie helped me get my birthday present all sighted in. Ravin R10.
I was killing it at 20 and 30 yards. All bullseyes.
I walked it out to 60 yards and was still shooting 2" groups.
We got a little fishing in - only the little ones were biting.
Lucy was pretty intent - she caught the first one and the most (3).
They were all pretty small.
Joan graduated from the zero-turn to the Kubota this week.
She took Lucy and Charlie each for an extended ride.
Van stopped by and even wiggled his skinny butt back there looking for dead mice.
We saw monarchs and swallowtails. Here's a short video of one active butterfly bush. Tiger Swallowtails.
I got up one morning and found this fish poacher at the pond (great blue heron).
My summer annual plot looks like a weed bed but there is evidence of buckwheat, sorghum, and soybeans in there too.
My newly planted plot has some sprouts that look like it may be the oats that I planted.
Meanwhile, the deer and turkeys are using the existing clover.
We had a few Ranger rides and Lucy & Charlie like to make silly faces too.
Charlie spotted two hens.
The bobcat is back for the first time in a month or so.
And the other usual suspects.
There are still some spots around.
I don't get turkey and deer in the same frame that often.
The bucks are looking good too.
